Augustin Dumay began his career in 1980 thanks to Herbert von Karajan who invited him to play as a soloist with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Since then, he has gone on to perform with Europe’s best orchestras – Philharmonia, London Symphony, Royal Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, Royal Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Mahler Chamber, Camerata Salzburg, Tonhalle Zürich, Alte Oper Frankfurt – and with the Orpheus Chamber, Los Angeles Philharmonic and Montreal Symphony, under the direction of S. Ozawa, C. Davis, C. von Dohnányi, C. Dutoit, G. Rozhdestvensky, A. Davis, D. Zinman, Y. Temirkanov, K. Masur, W. Sawallisch, K. Sanderling, I. Fischer, as well as with the leading conductors of a new generation such as D. Harding, A. Gilbert, R. Ticciati and M. Emelyanychev.

His duo with pianist Maria João Pires has toured the world several times.

Augustin Dumay is also intensely active as a conductor all over the world. Since 2011, he has been music director of the Kansai Philharmonic Orchestra (Japan).

Very involved with the new generation, he is Master in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium, where he teaches young violinists of a very high level.

His 50 recordings for EMI and Deutsche Grammophon have won multiple international awards.

His new CD, devoted to Mendelssohn – Concerto with Orpheus Chamber, Sonata and Romances without Words with Jonathan Fournel – has just been released by Onyx Classics.

He plays a 1743 Guarnerius del Gesù, which was the violin of Leonid Kogan.
